Marriage Weekend Getaway

BYU's Aspen Grove is hosting a Marriage Weekend Getaway for couples on September 22-23, 2017!

Aspen Grove Marriage Weekend Getaway offers education lectures on marriage and provide a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational activities and programs. 

All weekend packages include dinner and accommodations Friday night, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Bedding is provided. Dress of this even is casual.

$190 per couple for Beckham Lodge, and Aspen Lodge Guestroom accommodations.

$175 per couple for Family Lodge accommodations. 

$140 per couple for Rustic Cabin accommodations.

Check-in begins Friday at 3:00 PM. Checkout is Saturday at 4:00 PM

The special guest speaker is Jonathan Sandberg, Ph.D.

"Jonathan Sandberg, Ph.D., joined the faculty in the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University in the fall of 2008 where his primary responsibility is training Marriage and Family Therapists. Prior to coming to BYU he worked at Syracuse University in the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy for 10 years. In addition, Dr. Sandberg has worked with families, couples and individuals as a family therapist for 21 years. Currently he serves in the LDS church in a Young Single Adult Stake presidency. Both in church service and in his profession, Brother Sandberg has spent many hours with families as they share their joys as well as their heart breaking sorrows. Most importantly, Jonathan has the unique honor and privilege of being married to Sharon Jannelli Sandberg, his best friend and sweetheart, and they are the parents of 4 wonderful and vibrant children. His favorite family activity is to hike in the National Parks of Southern Utah."

A Night at the Roadhouse

Texas Roadhouse is a restaurant that anyone and everyone will love! The food is so delicious and you get so much for your money! You are always served complimentary rolls and honey butter and you can eat as many as you want and they will keep bringing them to you!

Their starter's (appetizers) are also soo good too! Seriously, everything is soo good here!

Texas Roadhouse's menu has so many wonderful dishes to choose from! So far I've had their Chicken Cesar Side Salad, Ribs, Chicken Critters, Grilled BBQ Chicken, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Bacon Cheeseburger, Steak and Ribs. I was not disappointed. 

Also depending on what main dish you order, you get to choose two sides from creamed corn, baked  potato, sweet potato, Cesar salad, steak fries, mashed potatoes and more!

Because Texas Roadhouse gives you so much food, my husband and I always split a dish and our favorite is their Ribs and Steak combo. It comes with two sides so we each get to choose one. I always get the Cesar salad and he always varies his choice and when we get a free appetizer coupon we always get the cheese fries!

I promise my husband was more excited than he looks! He was just refusing to smile and was playing a game with me. When I'd set the phone down he'd smile and when I tried to take his picture, he'd take that smile away and when I finally got him to stop, his smile was way too cheesy, so I went with this one (haha).

Texas Roadhouse offers some sweet deals too! When it's your birthday, they bring out a horse saddle and make you sit on it while the staff sings you a birthday song. Along with a saddle ride and song, you get a complimentary ice cream bowl. 

When you sign up online for their rewards program they send you a coupon for a free appetizer and sometimes they send them at random. It's pretty great!  My husband graduated college a few weeks ago and as were we trying to figure out a place to eat out and celebrate, we kept saying how we wished we could get a Texas Roadhouse coupon for a free appetizer and the next day my husband got one! Right then and there it was decided that we were going! Every time my husband and I get a coupon email, we ALWAYS go and use it.

"All Out Fun"

My husband and I got to sneak away for a Date Night while my sister watch our son. The new Fast & Furious movie came out so I knew there was no question about what we were going to do that night. My husband was so anxious and excited to see it that we couldn't not go see it at Fat Cats. 

 We ended up leaving for our date early than we orginally planned because I had a surprise activity planned for us. While driving to the movie theater, my husband was super confused because he thought we were going somewhere else. As we arrived and walked into through Fat Cats door,  I said surprise!!! He then started laughing because he then knew I was talking about the arcade. 

We were going to channel in on our fun, young side!

While this date activity may sound silly, it ended up being one of the funnest and best dates we have been on. We were laughing and giggling the entire time with each other. 

My husband was crushing it on a game and the tickets just kept on coming out!

I loved that we were able to let loose and have fun. It's important that life not be so serious all the time. We need opportunities like this to have fun. With our tickets we were able to get a card wallet and we got a toy fishing hook for our son.

This is seriously a fun date that you HAVE to try. Fat Cats also has a Thunder Alley, Glow Golf, and Billiards, which I have done in the past and were all fun too!

After the arcade we saw the movie and it was really good! FYI: it helps if you've seen the other Fast and Furious movies. 

Relationship tip: have fun and be a kid during this date. Enjoy the one-on-one time with your spouse and play some arcade games.

London Sky Garden

When in London, visit one of London’s best kept secrets!

The Sky Garden is known as “London’s Highest Public Garden”. It’s the perfect date location for a couple on vacation in London. How about drinks and live music? Can you imagine a cooler atmosphere than the top of a skyscraper overlooking the city of London? You can dance the night away, on top of the world!

Whatever you do at the Sky Garden, you will have the time of your life and make great memories together from your time in London, my husband and I did!

One of the best things about this place is it is free to visit. All you have to do is book ahead!

The Sky Garden is open from 10am to 6am, Monday - Friday and 11am to 9pm on weekends. Go take your spouse on a great date and enjoy fantastic views like these:

Relationship Tip: Don’t forget to go on dates, even when you are on vacation! If you spend all of your time touring in a city, you might as well spend some of that touring time strengthening your relationship.

Black Bear Diner

Black Bear Diner is my husband's and mine favorite place to eat and we ain't lying!

We were first introduced to the Black Bear Diner in California when we went to visit his grandparents and other extended family members last summer. I went one afternoon with grandma and my husband went the next morning with grandpa. We were both so impressed with the quality and quanitity of the food. We loved it there so much that we went two more times before we headed back home.

The Black Bear Diner has 6 locations between Provo and Salt Lake City.  Their food is bound to be delicious if there is that many locations, am I right!

My husbands favorite dish is The Grizz! It comes with 2 sweet cream pancakes, 3 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausage links & a ham steak, served with your choice of potatoes. 

My husband said, "the pancakes are super fluffy and when you pour a ton a syrup on top, the pancakes soak it all up making each bite heavenly."

And my favorite dish is the Turkey Club. It's a triple decker stacked sandwich with rostered turkey breast, bacon, ham, tomato, lettuce & mayonnaise with a side of French Fries. Yummy :) 

My mouth is watering now, just thinking about it!!

Their dinner menu also looks divine. They serve all kinds of from Hand-Breaded Southern Friend Chicken, Wild Alaska Salmon, Slow-Cooked Pot Roast, Ribs, Chicken & Waffles to Linguine & Penne Pasta and much, much more.
